What Office licencing does Microsoft provide?
Broadly Microsoft has provided three kinds of Microsoft Office licence.
- Stand-alone perpetual licenced copies of Office 2024, Office 2021 etc.
- Microsoft 365 Office subscriptions with installable apps.
- Microsoft 365 subscriptions or free accounts limited to Office for web.
What Office licencing is at my non-profit Kindergarten?
Each kindergarten and service provider has evolved their own arrangement for Office software on staff computers.
In the past, hardware supplied by Kindergarten IT Program came with a perpetual licence for whatever version of Office Professional was available at the time.
As computer equipment, IT volunteers and staff change, kindergartens should review what licences they have.
- Some computers still have stand-alone perpetual Office 2019/2021 licences.
- The majority of modern computers donated or purchased will be using a Microsoft 365 subscription acquired by the kindergarten.
- Some kindergartens who purchased or gained a Microsoft 365 Business plan will have Office desktop apps activated from accounts provided with the plan. This may also include mailboxes at the kindergarten’s own domain.
What Office licencing does Kindergarten IT Program offer?
We can provide up to 20 Office 365 accounts to member kindergartens of the program. Please note, the majority of the 20 email accounts we provide are Office 365 A1 licences and cannot install Office desktop apps.
Most of the accounts are configured as an Outlook email address and all our accounts are at our tenancy ‘kindergarten.vic.gov.au’. For example: yourkinder.kin@kindergarten.vic.gov.au.
- All our licences make use of the most up-to-date version of Office 365.
- All our licences offer Office 365 for the Web . This means full editing and saving of Office files in the browser using the online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- All the accounts offer OneDrive storage.
- All our licenses can also use Office mobile apps on Android and Apple.
Office 365 A1 licences
- log into Use these accounts on any computer from the browser,https://outlook.office.com.
- Cannot download or activate Office desktop apps
Office 365 A 3 upgrade
Three of the Office 365 accounts can be nominated by the kindergarten to an Office A3 licence. This is an upgrade to one to three of the kindergarten’s accounts, not in addition to the 20 available licences.
- A3 licences can download and activate Office desktop applications on a computer that the account is used on.
- A3 licences have 1TB of OneDrive storage, suitable backing up a desktop or sharing folders to staff.
